Introduction to the studying of an academic professional education.
Studies on theoretical perspectives of child and childhood are introduced and their methodological consequences are discussed and problematised. Preschool is studied in a historical perspective and the Swedish preschool and perspectives on the child and childhood are placed in an international perspective.
The main features of preschool core values activities are studied and presented through different forms of expression such as drama and role play, with discussions of potential consequences for preschool education.
Module 2
The emergence, organisation and societal role of preschool are introduced and its purpose, steering documents and rules pertaining to confidentiality and the obligation to notify authorities on suspicion of child abuse are studied. Based on the students' experiences, different perspectives on gender, equality and diversity are discussed and problematised. Experiences are dramatised in different forms and related to possible consequences for preschool activities.
The module includes methods to describe, document and explain preschool activities as part of communicating and presenting activities in the future profession.
Module 3
Studies of:
- steering documents and their application in preschool
- professional relations to children, colleagues and care providers.
Organise, carry out and evaluate:
- activities in groups of children aiming at stimulating involvement, curiosity and collaboration
- children's influence and participation
Module 4
The students' experiences of the practical placement (module 3) are presented and problematised and related to steering documents, theories on the child and childhood, preschool activities and the conditions of the teaching profession.
Scientific perspectives and research describing the different conditions of the teaching profession. The module includes methods to search for and use scientific articles and doctoral dissertations.

General admission requirements plus either
- field-specific eligibility A6 a (upper secondary school level Natural Science 1b or 1a1 + 1a2, Civics 1b or 1a1 + 1a2), or
- field-specific eligibility 6 a (upper secondary school level English B, Natural Science A, Civics A).
Selection:
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
