Physical Education III
30.0 ECTS creditsThe subject and subject-specific teaching methodological content is related to upper secondary educational curricula for physical education and to the demands of the future profession as well as to national and international research in the field. An independent degree project concludes the course. Instruction is in the form lectures, exercises and supervision, individually or in groups.
Module 1 Subject-specific pedagogy, outdoor and sports activities, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module further develops knowledge of and skills in in-and outdoor activities. Activities are analysed and problematised theoretically and practically in terms of their significance to physical education. Outdoor life is experienced through hiking during which nature and leadership are in focus. It is also studied in terms of health and environmental aspects and subject-specific pedagogy. Students also study how different health projects can be pursued in school and their effects on children's and young people's psychosocial health.
Module 2 Theory of science and research methods in education, 7.5 ECTS cr
Students study theory of science and develop their understanding of different research approaches for studying problems related to the sports field and their abilities to analyse and assess the relationship between questions, methods and results. Different types of problems related to the sports science field are discussed with a focus on data collection methods.
Module 3 Specialisation/Degree project, 15 ECTS cr
Under supervision the students conduct a research project in the sports science field. The project should be related to education. The emphasis is on critical analysis, methodical approach and problem formulation and presentation of results. Students are also required to critically review, assess and discuss fellow-students' projects and defend and discuss their own in seminar. The project topic is chosen by the students in consultation with the supervisor. Teacher education degree projects should combine the interests of research and teaching and reflect research skills as well as pedagogical skills.
