Research ethics for doctoral students
The Graduate School of Health offers this course for all doctoral students, to create opportunities for meetings between different research areas and disciplines. The course runs during February - March 2023.
Target group and requirement
The target group is everyone who wants to reflect on research ethical issues. The eligibility requirements are to be admitted to postgraduate education at Karlstad University. If many applicants we will prioritize those who have the course as compulsory in their study plans as well as time for graduation and need for an English language course.
Course content
Instruction is in the form of lectures, seminars and practical exercises and comprises the following components:
- The historical emergence of research ethics and the foundations of research ethics
- The role of science in society
- Legislation and codes
- Processing research data
- Publishing ethics
- Research misconduct and conflicts of interests.
- Research information to human subjects and consent.
Learning outcomes
- give an account of and reflect on the history of research ethics and the role of science in society
- identify and reflect on research ethical issues and problem
- identify and reflect on research ethical issues in relation to producing as well as publishing scientific results
- demonstrate an ethical approach to research
- give an account of and reflect on good research practice
- give an account of and reflect on legislation, codes and the processing of research data from an ethical perspective
- make ethical assessment in research
Information
The course consists of six meetings.
Preliminary schedule:
Course start February 15. The following meetings are February 17, 21, 22 and 23 and Mars 7, 8 or 9th.
