My research mainly concerns teachers and learners social interaction in classrooms. Primarily, I use video-ethnographic methods and Conversation Analysis (CA) to investigate literacy practices, learning and instruction in classroom interaction.
Current research projects
Connected classrooms. New literacy practices among upper secondary school students in the smartphone era. The purpose is to yield knowledge about how and for what purposes upper secondary students use smartphones at school and to develop research methods for studying digital literacy practices in classroom settings. We explore how smartphones feature as resources in pedagogical and social usages within the classroom context. Linking Instruction and Student Achievement. A video-based study of the relationship between instruction and learning in mathematics and reading. The purpose of this project is to investigate the impact of different instructional strategies on student learning in secondary school. Student achievement data in mathematics and reading is combined with data from classroom video observations and student questionnaires. The study replicates a study that is currently being conducted in
