I am a member of KuFo (the culture studies research group), one of Karlstad University's prioritized research groups.
I'm a Renaissance scholar with a particular interest in the writings of Edmund Spenser and Sir Philip Sidney, and the influence of the Church Father Augustine, but I have also published on Petrarch, Wordsworth, Dickens and on European film.
I'm teaching literature and literary history, supervise literary essays, and teach and supervise in our PhD program.
I'm on the editorial board of the international journal Connotations.
I have been a member of IAUPE (”International Association of University Professors of English”) since 2002.
From 2003 to the spring of 2009 I was vice chairman of SWESSE, the Swedish branch of ESSE ("European Society for the Study of English").
Since 1999 I have been a board member of the Swedish ”Graduate Summer School of Literature and Literary Theory”, and from 2008 to 1014 the chairman of the ”English Professors’ Meeting”.
A two-time recipient of Fulbright grants for study and research in the United States, I graduated from Uppsala University with a PhD in English Literature in 1989, and have a Masters in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1986). Before coming to Karlstad in 1994, I taught at Umeå University and Uppsala University. I am married to Rose, and have two daughers, Linnea and Rebecka.
