Master programme in Educational Leadership and School Development
Teacher Education degree or equivalent qualifications of at least 180 ECTS cr plus upper secondary level Swedish B and English A.
EducationIn the course of study, students will understanding how control, leadership and development of preschool and school can be interpreted and managed in terms of both institution and organisation perspectives. Different phenomena in the education sphere are identified, structured, examined and analysed. Special emphasis is given to the various roles of different leaders in preschool and school. The role of the school leader in theory and practice is studied as are perspectives on school development and ways to implement development at the student's workplace. Studies are based on current research and aims to inspire an independent and scientific approach to the students' own leadership.
Form of InstructionThe programme is offered as distance education and starts with a foundational two-day on-campus meeting. The programme is designed to include an introductory and a concluding on-campus meeting for each course. Beyond the meetings, lectures are provided via Adobe Connect, which are also streamed and made available at the platform Itslearning. Students need access to a computer (not older than three years), permanent Internet connection, a headset with a microphone and preferably a web camera.
ExaminationAssessment is based on a presented investigation of a chosen problem carried out in a group and on an individual assignment on how and why the student's understanding has been affected by the course.
Professional ContactStudents are required to carry out certain studies of workplace practice. The relation between practice and school development and leadership in theory is the basis of the training.
Course of StudyThe programme is offered part-time. This means that it runs over 4 terms with 15 ECTS cr per term (totalling 60 ECTS cr). In the final term students work on their independent degree project, 15 ECTS cr.

Employment MarketThe programme leads to better qualifications to lead education organisations with a focus on development. It is designed for school leaders and for people who work with school issues, for instance, team leaders, development leaders, process leaders, development educators or learning leaders.
DegreeOn completion of 60 ECTS credits, students are awarded a one-year Master's degree, which gives eligibility for doctoral studies, primarily in educational work. Students can also take a further 60 ECTS credits and qualify for a two-year Master.
Further StudiesSuccessful completion of the programme gives eligibility for doctoral studies in primarily educational work.
