Science, technology, visual arts and drama

The course integrates knowledge of children' learning and development in science, technology, visual arts and drama thematically and through exploratory, visual and laboratory aspects of the subject areas.
Module 1 Introduction to science, technology, visual arts and drama, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with central concepts and theories in science, technology, visual arts and drama and how these subjects can be integrated with visual arts and drama.
The module comprises the following components:
-scientific and exploratory methods
-what is life
-central life processes
-evolution of life and diversity
-the concepts of force, pressure and density
-energy and energy conversion, matter and its division, structure and phase transformation from a particle perspective
-chemical safety
-chemical reactions in everyday life
-the history of and importance of technology and scientific discoveries in society
-technology in children's everyday lives, simple constructions and technical solutions
Module 2 Body, movement and construction, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module explores how to get children interested in in science, technology, visual arts and drama.
The module comprises the following components:
-the form and function of the body
-children's thoughts on the body
-contagion in preschool
-common physical phenomena such as magnetism, electricity, sound and light
-the structure of food, types, and its journey and transformation in the body
-common materials and their properties
-mechanics and design
-the basics of visual art: seeing, interpreting, expressing and understanding colour schemes
-sketching, colour experiments and image interpretation as exploratory tools
-four drama pedagogical perspectives
-puppet theatre techniques and the puppet as a communicative tools for children's learning
Module 3 Practical Placement, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module involves planning, organising and testing practical activities related to science, technology, visual arts and drama.
The module comprises the following components:
-planning, organising, implementing and evaluating activities in subject areas of the course
-preschool curricula and local guidelines at the placement workplace
-professional conduct in relation to children, guardians and colleagues
Module 4 Children, nature and society, 7.5 ECTS cr
Aspects of sustainable development are considered throughout the module which treats how children's curiosity, initiative and interests can be put to good use through thematic methods in the areas of science, technology, visual arts and drama.
The module comprises the following components:
-turning outdoor environments into learning environments together with children
-nature and conditions of life in terms of the ecological system
-systems of classification of organisms and interplay
-natural cycles and human impact on them
-environmental and nature preservation issues
-technical systems in and around the preschool
-recycling and reusing for sustainable development
-the causes of seasonal change
-process drama in interaction with the subject areas of the course
-varying forms of illustrated narration in interaction with science and technology

Selection:
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
