Assessment, Grading, Special Education and Teacher Training

Module 1 Assessing, Grading and Special Education, 7.5 ECTS cr
Course components:
-assessment and evaluation in practice, for instance test construction and formulating goals that promote learning.
-national guides on assessment such as the Education Agency test database and the national tests.
-decisions to be made in the choice of assessment formats.
-problematising exercises in how assessment formats can be weighted and appraised in grading.
-the role of assessment in the follow-up of school goal fulfilment.
-local, national, and international knowledge measurements and their relation to follow-up and assessment.
-definitions of the concepts equity, reliability, and validity, and analyses of the relation between them.
-assessment of special education perspectives and links to various pedagogical consequences for development and learning.
-the students' own positions, values, and attitudes.
-different forms of disability and functional challenge.
-special education perspectives in relation to child rights issues and school development.
-aspects of class, gender, and ethnicity problematised in relation to assessment.
-possibilities and problems related to digitalisation discussed in relation to assessment.

Module 2: Practical Placement, 7.5 ECTS cr.
Students engage in the following activites:
-interpreting and implementing central steering documents,
-applying pedagogical and and subject-specific teaching theories with consideration of pupils' different knowledge, abilities, and needs,
-planning, leading, and evaluating a longer period of teaching while taking part in all the teachers' duties at school,
-handling special education needs in cooperation with others,
-documenting, assessing, and/or grading pupils' knowledge in relation to school goals, and
-using digital tools in school.

Progressive specialisation: A1N (has only first‐cycle course/s as entry requirements)

Education level: Master's level

Admission requirements: 60 ECTS credits completed in the area of general education studies and a completed main field of study (for the Teacher Education Degree 210 ECTS cr or two completed main fields of study for the Teacher Education Degree 270-330 ECTS cr), or equivalent

Selection:

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
