Family, children and adolescent nursing
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course integrates nursing (5 ECTS cr) and medical science (10 ECTS cr) on campus and in the virtual learning environment. Instruction is in the form of lectures, individual study, group work, seminars, and clinical placement (6 weeks). Instruction builds on research and evidence-based knowledge of the field.
Different somatic and psychiatric disorders and health risks among children and adolescents are treated, along with appropriate interventions and treatments. Functional impairment and development disorders as well as neuropsychiatric conditions are studied along with rehabilitation and child habilitation. Students also study support interventions for children, adolescents and families with special needs in conjunction with other actors. The UN convention on the rights of the child is treated in relation to sustainable social development and health equity among children and adolescents.
The role of the primary care nurse in health promotion among families, children and adolescents is treated in relation to current regulations. Areas in public health and preventive care are treated in relation to the national public health objectives, with a special focus on health problems, risk environments and risk behaviour. During their clinical placement, students study the work and leadership of the primary care nurse in relation to the organisation of child healthcare and the school health care team, and develop their professional approach to and independence in the professional role.

Degree in Nursing and admission to the Specialist Nursing programme with a specialisation in primary health care, and upper secondary level Swedish 3 or Swedish as a second language 3, and English 6, or equivalent
