15.0 ECTS creditsModule 1. The Global Nationalism 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with different theories of nationalism related to the emergence of nation states, the idea content of nationalism, identity issues, gender and the role of these aspects in the building and dissolution of states.
Attention is given to nation building in countries with a colonial background and to the xenophonic manifestations of nationalism in the 20th century. Besides the political/cultural factors involved, the role of basic economic and social factors in nation building and nationalism is also treated.
Module 2. The Economic-Historical perspective 7.5 ECTS cr
Economic history deals with how societies have managed their maintenance through the ages, including sustainability aspects. Two previously studied problem areas in a Eurpoean perspective are further treated, namely resource allocation and standard of living, and technological and economic development. A long-term economic-historical perspective on the historical development from the Middle Ages to the contemporary age is provided.
Core issues in history teaching
The subject-specific issue of historical thinking/awareness is considered. How do teachers solve the problem of working with issues of cause-effect, continuity-disruption and actor-structure in history teaching?
