Regional organization in space and time
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course covers the following components, each with a comparative approach:
- The incentives and ideological bases of regional organising from local, regional and national perspectives,
- The formal and informal structures of regional organising: forms of management, systems of communications and decision-making,
- Official and informal actors of regional organising: administrative bodies, religious organisations, social movements/organisations, individuals,
- The symbolic structure of regional organising: historical writing, monuments, cultural activities, rites/ceremonies, etc,
- The continuity and change of regional organising
- Sources of the history of regional organising.
Instruction is mainly in the form of lectures and seminars.

Admission requirements:
General requirements for admisssion to Master-level studies.
Special requirements:
- Upper secondary level English 6 or B, or equivalent
Programme students: Bachelor's degree 180 ECTS cr with a Major in History, Human Geography, Political Science, or equivalent. An alternative to Human Geography can be Tourism Studies, Environmental Science or GIS Engineering degree, provided that the studies have an emphasis on social science.
Non-programme students: First-cycle courses in Social and Political Science totalling at least 120 ECTS, of which 90 ECTS cr are in one of the following subjects and include a degree project 15 ECTS cr: History, Human Geography, Political Science, Tourism, or a degree in GIS engineering with an emphasis on social science.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
