Technology I and Technology education
30.0 ECTS creditsModule 1 Energy Systems - an Introduction, 7.5 ECTS cr
The following components are treated:
- The Swedish energy system, energy production plants, basic circuit diagram, effect and resource flows
- Energy and effect
- Systems and system boundaries
- Incineration plants and heat value
- Cooling machines, Coefficient of Performance (COP), and heat factor
- Conduction, convection, and radiation
- Heat exchanger and logarythmic average temperature difference
- Air handling system
- Energy effectivisation
Module 2 Sustainable Development, 7.5 ECTS cr
- Through lectures, seminars and individual study, students learn central concepts in the field of
sustainable development: definitions, priciples of sustainable development, environmental problems,
activities causing environmental problems
- I=PAT equation, allocation problems, cycles, backlash effect, technical solutions, financial instruments of control, and insight into current global trends.
- students conduct and present a change project in which the environmental effects of change are estimated
- students reflect on change activities and their environmental consequences and suggest measures
and control instruments that support the process towards sustainable development.
Module 3 Materials Engineering, 7.5 ECTS cr
- lectures and seminars treating mechanical properties and testing, deformation mechanisms, strengthening
mechanisms, fractures, phase transformations, phase diagrams, transformation diagrams, heat treatment, and
corrosion, as well as the structure, properties, and applications of metallic, ceramic, and polymeric engineering
materials
- mandatory laboratory assignments where students are trained in the use of light microscopes, scanning electron microscope, and equipment for mechanical testing (tensile, impact, and hardness tests).
Module 4 Technology Education, 7.5 ECTS cr
- current steering documents relevant for technology examined in international and historical perspectives
- varying kinds of technology education with examples from different countries
- an overview of different types or learning resources, with a special focus on digital resources but also textbooks and other educational materials
- technology concepts included in steering documents are problematised
- different perspectives on learning in technology, such as adult education, gender and cultural perspectives
- the school subject "technology" and its history in Sweden
- different aspects of assessment in technology on the basis of materials from Skolverket
