Welcome to Media and Communication Studies
It is often claimed that we live in a media society. But what does that mean? What is the role of the media in the making of contemporary society? What is the impact of new media on everyday life? Why is a critical approach to the study of media and communication important? Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University prepares you to participate in the process of looking for answers to these questions, among others.
Our educational philosophy is one that links theory and research in media and communication studies in meaningful and insightful ways. In addition to the core theoretical courses, we offer a series of elective courses in media production as well as an internship course, which provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in media and communication as a professional field of work. Thanks to various exchange agreements with a variety of universities in other countries, we also offer our students excellent opportunities to study abroad.
We offer our students both national and global perspectives and contemporary tools to think about the communication systems and media platforms of our age. One of our key objectives is to promote critical analytical thinking. Our students receive a solid education, which helps them to gain the skills and the knowledge to apply for positions in the fields of public relations and strategic communication media production and a variety of other media and communicationrelated work.
