Political participation and Citizenship in Convergence Culture

Departing from convergence culture today and the deliberative turn in democratic theory, the project aspire to develop new understandnings of citizenship and political particiaption online with a long term purpose of outlining a new backdrop to assess democracy in th 20th century against. The short-term aim for this project is to study political participation in interactive social media and analyse this from citizenship and normative democratic theories. More specifically what is political particiaption on Facebook and Twitter and how does this transform, or not transform, our understanding of citizenship?

Case studies on Facebook and Twitter will be conducted september and october 2010.
