Courses
All university education consists of courses which can be studied separately or as part of a programme. Karlstad University offers over 900 courses, which can be seleced and combined into a degree that reflects your interests. Many courses are offered as full-time, part-time, on or off-campus studies.
The courses are divided into three levels: undergraduate level, master’s level and doctorate level (first/basic, second/advanced and third level). Normally courses must be taken in a certain order since there is a progression from one course to the next. Students who are uncertain about how to combine to reach their goals are welcome to consult with the university study counsellors.
If the course is cancelled
The preliminary assessment includes a notification if the course to which you have applied has been cancelled. If this is the case and the cancelled course was your first priority, you will automatically be transferred to your second choice. Once the selection to a course has been processed, no course can technically be cancelled.
Contact the study adviser if you are uncertain about alternative study options to a cancelled course. Admission openings at Karlstad University are listed here: You can also apply for programmes and courses and make a late application via antagning.se
Please note that most of the courses are taught in Swedish. The course catalogue contains descriptions in English of all programmes and courses, no matter what the language of instruction.
