The academic year
The academic year is divided into two semesters:
Autumn semester: from mid-August to mid-January (with a two-week break over Christmas)
Spring semester: from mid-January to early June
From mid-June until mid-August there has generally been no teaching, but in recent years many universities, including Karlstad, have begun offering summer courses, most of them conducted in Swedish.
There are no set examination periods. Examinations usually take place at the end of each course or module. There are usually no lectures planned in the beginning of January, but examinations might be scheduled during this period.
Exchange students and international students admitted to English master programmes are welcome to attend the orientation programme at Karlstad University. The introduction takes place one week before the course starts.
