Economics

Welcome to the Department of Economics at Karlstad University.

Economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. The study of Economics is usually divided in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.

In Microeconomics we study the behavior of individuals and of separate markets, such as how individuals react to different income and price levels or how to analyze and potentially solve market failures such as environmental pollution.

In Macroeconomics we study aggregate outcomes for the entire economy, including fluctuations in the business cycle, inflation, unemployment and government debt crises.

Education

At the Department of Economics we offer a 4-year programme in Business and Economics (joint with the Department of Business Administration), with courses both in Swedish and English. We also offer a 1-year Master Programme taught completely in English, as well as a number of single courses at both the undergraduate and Master's level given in English.
