Karlstad University invites applications for

University Lectureship in Mathematics Education

Karlstad University enrols many students in teacher training for all educational levels. We also offer many courses for in-service teacher training.

Duties: The appointment includes teaching and research in mathematics education for future teachers in primary school. The successful candidate is expected to do research in this field and/or in multidisciplinary research program as well as actively attract external funding. In the first three years research will constitute forty percent of the workload. Duties can also include supervising PhD students and commissioned education. Some administrative tasks associated with the post are involved.

Qualification requirements and assessment grounds:
Applicants must have
completed a PhD in mathematics education, mathematics with an emphasis on teaching methodology, pedagogy/education with an emphasis on mathematics education, or equivalent academic expertise. Applicants are also required to have demonstrated teaching skills. In order to be qualified for a permanent position as a lecturer, applicants must have undergone training for teaching in higher education or equivalent. A successful candidate who lacks this qualification can be employed for a limited period until such qualification has been obtained. In the ranking of candidates, equal emphasis will be put on academic and teaching skills. Special consideration is given to the candidates' knowledge of the Swedish education of primary school teachers in mathematics and to their experience in teaching mathematics education to future teachers. Special consideration is also given to qualifications in both research and teaching. Further requirements are ooperative skills, resourcefulness and respectful approach to colleagues and students. An applicant who wishes to be considered for a position as professor should indicate this in the application.

The application is to consist of:

  • a verified CV, preferably including the names of referees
  • a detailed account of your teaching and academic (/artistic) activities
  • an account of your experience from other activities, and experience in management, teamwork and administration
  • your future work plans
  • list of published works
  • copies of certificates, references and degree certificates
  • copies of the works you wish to cite, a maximum of ten academic publications, and a maximum of five works intended to disseminate expertise, e.g. text books, computer programs for teaching or articles on popular science

All documents should be submitted in three identical copies in such a way that they can be forwarded to experts for assessment without requiring further sorting. We prefer that one copy be submitted unbound to facilitate copying.
